The Good, the Bad, and the Empathetic

Here I stand
on that unpaved road
that has led me towards a life
filled with stories
memories
still untold

The shattered glass vase
is what I proudly say
has made me whole

Unwritten stories
are shown in waves of empathy
for the friends
that understand
what it means to have a heart
filled up so big from
a past that has burnt it to a crisp

For every journey
that is begun anew
I still seek the honesty
in a passing strangers eye

I’ve learned
sometimes
the best part of waking up
is the sunrise

And sometimes
the most unsuspecting people
can surprise you
to have the kind of heart
with the same shades
of lilac and apricot

Each day is another chapter
of the words I get to create
to pages of a life that are mine
and no one else’s

Even in the days where
the sky is as grey as the feeling of my heart
I choose to spread kindness
because I’ve experienced the power
of a hand held out from the smile of a stranger

And I know the potential
of showing kindness
for it has the capability
of revealing the sun
and ridding the storm clouds
for a person that knows
the same tune
set in the key
of a shattered glass vase

Blooming of Enlightenment

By- Traci Taylor
August 2017

Trace your steps backwards
try to connect the dots
the universe has set us on a journey
that leads us to a destination

There are hills of struggle
when isolation feels permanent
even in a crowded room

My soul was lost
for over 900 days
even on a path I knew
like the back of my hand

But I pulled myself up
that October morning
and I’ve been learning
the reasons why
I was meant to see November

Virginia Woolf once wrote
that with age she realized
spring is more rewarding
than the fall

As the flowers bloom
and the birds chirp
I am understanding how
a heart can grow just as the roses
