Two Way Reach

By- Traci Taylor
December 2016

Cursed a dreamer
by luck of
believing

Holding on
to the ledge
of hope
that true love
isn’t a myth

Tripped up
one
too many
times

Fallen up
into clouds
then down
into a ditch

Resilience
of belief
there is a pot of gold
at the end
of the rainbow

But recalling
the words
of wisdom
once told

to not be
the only one
who does
the reaching

A Hug In a Photograph

By- Traci Taylor
December 2016

When pictures
make the people
we love
come alive

Distant memories
of a time
where sadness
was merely
a skinned knee
soothed by Bactine

At a loss
for words
when not even
time
can heal the wound
felt deep in the pit
of a stomach
empty of feeling

Darkness of twilight
warm my lonesome self
with the sweet smell of home
wrapped up in yesterdays

The leaves change
to colors of golden amber brown
almost has the mind
forget the loss it has felt
since the sun set
in soft pinks
and cold baby blues

Making the heart
erase the reality
of photographs

The only time
I can feel
hugged
by your smile

Lust for a Skyline

By- Traci Taylor
November 2016

What does it mean to love a city?
it means you long
for dreams
bigger than yourself

That your soul is
meant to be free
to line up
with the skyscrapers
that form the
skyline of identity

Yearning to break away
from small town
white fences
and roam the open
minded busy streets
of love

Never being content
with falling asleep
with the sun
but lusting for the
burst of colors to
brighten the landscape
of your wildest dreams

Unknowingly

November 2016

A longing for that sense
of comforting emotion

No longer is its frequency
surrounding like walls
of a once familiar room

Days pass that often
feel like centuries

Yet no change has occurred
the insides of my soul
still feel shattered

With plenty of missing
pieces of glass

The pen continues
to flow on paper
but no text has yet to appear

Every hour leads to question
distinctly knowing there’s no answer

Waiting for golden ocean eyes
with a heart of porcelain
to gaze into the broken glass mirror
and repair the promised impossible

Awoken Violet

By- Traci Taylor
November 2016

Your wings
may have fluttered
away

But I am
reminded daily
of your presence

Within your spirit
you’ve guided
certain souls
into my earth

For so long
this world felt dark
without
you

Then I awoke
to the exquisite sight
of the winged
butterfly

Once again
you have assured
me of your warmth
in the guidance of others
placed on my path

I am not alone

Seeking a Reflection

By- Traci Taylor
September 2016

It is a bitter pill to swallow
looking around at faces
that look through you like glass
into another humans heart-shaped eyes

Sudden feeling of isolation
being in a crowded room
but seeming to be
alone at sea

Piercing is the alarm
that signals with red flags
to assure that this storm
is merely temporary

Seeking
the simplicity of love
the kind that makes others
write home about

Facing the bottom
of an empty barrel
where letters were once stacked high

Maybe
some of us
aren’t meant to see
anything
but ourselves
in the reflection of the mirror

Keys to the Heart

By- Traci Taylor
September 2016
(In loving memory of Alice Valeri aka MomMom)

It’s within the streaking of the sky
that we often look for answers

When answers are not found
we try to create illusions to escape to

Breaking away from the body that traps us
and the emotions that in sadness drown us

In this life it slips our minds
that there is a beginning and an end

The purpose is to gain keys
that have the power to open hearts

And to create stories through actions
that leave memories for when the end is near

The streaks in the sky may fade
but the answers can be found within the turning of the key
