Blooming of Enlightenment

Trace your steps backwards
try to connect the dots
the universe has set us on a journey
that leads us to a destination

There are hills of struggle
when isolation feels permanent
even in a crowded room

My soul was lost
for over 900 days
even on a path I knew
like the back of my hand

But I pulled myself up
that October morning
and I’ve been learning
the reasons why
I was meant to see November

Virginia Woolf once wrote
that with age she realized
spring is more rewarding
than the fall

As the flowers bloom
and the birds chirp
I am understanding how
a heart can grow just as the roses

A Hug In a Photograph

By- Traci Taylor
December 2016

When pictures
make the people
we love
come alive

Distant memories
of a time
where sadness
was merely
a skinned knee
soothed by Bactine

At a loss
for words
when not even
time
can heal the wound
felt deep in the pit
of a stomach
empty of feeling

Darkness of twilight
warm my lonesome self
with the sweet smell of home
wrapped up in yesterdays

The leaves change
to colors of golden amber brown
almost has the mind
forget the loss it has felt
since the sun set
in soft pinks
and cold baby blues

Making the heart
erase the reality
of photographs

The only time
I can feel
hugged
by your smile

Lust for a Skyline

By- Traci Taylor
November 2016

What does it mean to love a city?
it means you long
for dreams
bigger than yourself

That your soul is
meant to be free
to line up
with the skyscrapers
that form the
skyline of identity

Yearning to break away
from small town
white fences
and roam the open
minded busy streets
of love

Never being content
with falling asleep
with the sun
but lusting for the
burst of colors to
brighten the landscape
of your wildest dreams

Unknowingly

November 2016

A longing for that sense
of comforting emotion

No longer is its frequency
surrounding like walls
of a once familiar room

Days pass that often
feel like centuries

Yet no change has occurred
the insides of my soul
still feel shattered

With plenty of missing
pieces of glass

The pen continues
to flow on paper
but no text has yet to appear

Every hour leads to question
distinctly knowing there’s no answer

Waiting for golden ocean eyes
with a heart of porcelain
to gaze into the broken glass mirror
and repair the promised impossible

Awoken Violet

November 2016

Your wings
may have fluttered
away

But I am
reminded daily
of your presence

Within your spirit
you’ve guided
certain souls
into my earth

For so long
this world felt dark
without
you

Then I awoke
to the exquisite sight
of the winged
butterfly

Once again
you have assured
me of your warmth
in the guidance of others
placed on my path

I am not alone

Pale Heart

By- Traci Taylor
October 2016

I can feel
the color drain
from my face
losing the shade
of happiness

It happens
every time
a thought of you
crosses my mind

No matter how tightly
I shut my eyes
the image of you reflects
off the mirror of memories

You’re the last
person
I want
to miss

No human
should long
to miss
another
that shattered
their reflection

Stuck in Time

By- Traci Taylor
October 2016

Feeling pressed down
by the weight of the world

There’s no exit
or commercial break

Life has no map of direction
only the speed bumps of missed opportunity

It’s like drowning
on dry land

Wanting a voice
when all you have free is a hand.
