Painting with Words

The calming rhythm
of leaves falling
losing their picturesque golden browns
at the end of autumn
on the cusp of a frigid winter

Nighttime paints the sky
the darkest color of blue
midnight strikes
and only the moon is left to lighten the sky

Within life
lives are influenced by strangers
who pass us by in moments
that expand sometimes into years
time isn’t the determination
of how deep their footprints impact

Standing still
on the horizon of a warm spring evening
surrounded by blossoming flowers
that grow like a metaphor for hope
with all of their colors of the rainbow

Nature is the writer’s
can of paint
waiting
to place feelings stuck
in an overactive mind
soon to be formed
into words that project feeling

Unknowingly

A longing for that sense
of comforting emotion

No longer is its frequency
surrounding like walls
of a once familiar room

Days pass that often
feel like centuries

Yet no change has occurred
the insides of my soul
still feel shattered

With plenty of missing
pieces of glass

The pen continues
to flow on paper
but no text has yet to appear

Every hour leads to question
distinctly knowing there’s no answer

Waiting for golden ocean eyes
with a heart of porcelain
to gaze into the broken glass mirror
and repair the promised impossible

Blindsided

Blindsided by the possibility
that in this life
second chances are real

Years of feeling breathless
seemingly lost on a path
going around in circles

Moments like this
are my proof that
romance trumps cynicism

The only fools in this world
exist because they let go
before they had been pulled from the ledge

As long as the moonlight
sparkles upon the illuminate ocean
the promise of the tide will prevail

Grasping for Hope

Vulnerability is standing on the edge of hope,
eyes shut and knowing failure is an option.

Courage is built from mistakes in the past,
that have wounded the heart with a shard of glass.

For the people that continue to live through each day,
regardless of the darkness it may be filled with.

Secretly longing for light to shine through,
unknowing when or if that time will come.

Being open to possibility feels unsafe,
but the rainbow never appears until after the rainfall.

Holding on in the storm and seeking out tomorrow,
is grasping onto hope at the most vital of times.

In Search of Better Days

Among the horizon of city lights
I gaze out and feel a smile form on my face.
The comfort of lights is my substitute for the lack of a salty ocean breeze.

Discovering peace outside of myself,
I’ve learned to appreciate my surroundings.
There is discoverable gratitude in the world.

No longer are the days filled with grey sky bitterness
Even in the snowy days there exists peace in the cold.
Sometimes it is a matter of realizing it’s about perspective.

How we view unfortunate weather may reveal a lot
about the genuine insight of who we are.
To appreciate a thunderstorm is to see the sunshine of hope for better days.

Standing Strong

As the days go by I’ve learned not to run.
Breath in the present and stand firm,
don’t let a spectator steer your fate.

Life may not be forever sunny-
There is no ultimate promise of happiness.
Looking within yourself and discovering the will to fight.

Becoming your own reason to smile
That is the most rewarding way to live.
Stop letting the naysayers tear you a part.

Today is not tomorrow –
step by step, day by day.
Learn to not become overwhelmed.

As children strangers can become friends,
when we grow friends may turn into strangers.
Time seems simpler when we close our eyes and learn to trust ourselves.

Change

The curtain is beginning to lift,
Light is forcing its way in again.

The darkness is fading now,
Colors of the leaves are changing.

The air is growing colder as the days progress,
Hearts are as protected as the beings trying to remain warm.

The clock waits for nothing,
Time moves on with or without the wounded.
